What motivated Phuong to move from Customer Service to Account Manager
Ever since joining Hilti, Phuong has always aimed for an Account Manager position because Phuong loves interacting and meeting people.
Becoming sales allows Phuong to do just that. When meeting customers, Phuong gets to learn about the work they do, the difficulties they face, and together, find solutions to make their work easier.
What are the opportunities and challenges for Phuong when working in a male-dominated industry?
In fact, women appearing in a predominantly male industry also have many advantages. Customers will be curious about how I will advise them, they will be more open and patient when interacting with me. When both sides encounter problems or difficulties, customers will be gentle and cooperative to solve them together.
However, Phuong also encountered difficulties, especially in grasping technical requirements, especially in the beginning. I had to persevere in learning, asking colleagues, bosses, and customers to understand the technical problems, then gradually I gained more knowledge and became more confident when advising customers. I think that curiosity to discover new things is a great motivation to help me overcome challenges.
What is Phuong most proud of at Hilti and how did she achieve it?
In 2019, Phuong was awarded the company's Value Creator award because she broke the sales record that year. Then everyone in the company affectionately gave her the nickname "Hilti's Queen of Tools".
I think the source of this success is my passion for machines. I really like to research how machines operate and their advantages so that I can clearly understand how these machines will help customers' work. In addition, I am also very persistent in convincing customers to experience the machines, letting them try them out before giving an evaluation.
With many years of experience in the industry, does Phuong have any advice for women who want to go further in the construction industry?
Instead of advice, Phuong calls it more of a confession. First, Phuong thinks sincerity is very important. If you are sincere with customers, sincerely want to become their partner, then customers will also open their hearts and appreciate your efforts. Next, believe in yourself that you can do better and constantly try to make yourself better tomorrow than today. If your colleagues can do it, you can do it too. And finally, you should love what you are doing because it will give you the motivation to move forward. As for Phuong personally, Phuong also believes in the opportunities the company opens up for you and you need to wait patiently.
